Mirto- a delicious Sardinian liqueur

There are two types of Mirto, a white version made from the flowers of the myrtle, and the more popular red type, which is made from the berries.

The recipe is simple. The myrtle berries, which ripen in winter between November and January, are washed and left for a couple of days. Then they are kept in a dark sealed container for 40 days covered with alcohol at 90°. After the 40 days the liquid including the juice squeezed out of the berries is mixed with syrup made with water and sugar. The content is then bottled in dark thick glass and left in the freezer for a month or two before drinking.

I was fortunate enough to join in on the picking of the berries not long ago... and "my" batch is sitting in a cupboard covered in alcohol as we speak.....it will be ready shortly and I will let you know how is tastes.

Sardinian people are very proud of their national liqueur and often make their own homemade version....like in our house, it is homemade. So if you ever visit a local household don’t be surprised or afraid to try their homemade Mirto, it is usually very good and often much better than any brands you find on the market.

Swarovski Elements

I have been in London for a few weeks and within that time I was lucky enough to attend a fabulous party for the launch of Swarovski Elements wallpaper collection. It was the most magical design party I have even been to. The food was amazing, the lighting was perfect and the new collection was sensational!! Another fantastic part about the night was the venue.....it was in a beautiful old building in central London where part of the movie "The Kind's Speech" was filmed. The scenes in the speech therapist's office, the huge fire place.....that is where we partied with this new collection. It was amazing!!!!
Anyway back to the new collection....it looks beautiful....sparkly but not too sparkly. There are nine designs in the collection, featuring sparkling crystals against exquisite backgrounds of velvet flock, mirror like foil, and a layered ink effect resembling metalic leather.

Have a look for yourself and tell us which one is your favourite....to me they are all beautiful and would look fantastic in the right place!

Hotel Missoni Kuwait

I am totally obsessed with Missoni at the moment and I guess the grand opening of the new Missoni Hotel in Kuwait doesnt help.... It is beautiful!!! Of course it is bright and fun with all the Missoni fabrics used. The colours that they used have been predominantly inspired from the land and sea of Kuwait. The hotel offers an exclusive experience of style, glamour, luxury and hospitality. Creative Director, Rosita Missoni, combines her signature use of vibrant patterns and of bold colours, with strong accents of turquoise, green and gold seen throughout the hotel.

The hotel has a total of 169 rooms out of which 63 are suites. All rooms feature Bang & Olufsen TVs, generous bath products, laptop connections and high-speed WiFi, and all suites are equipped with magic mirrors that allow guests to switch their bathroom mirror into a TV. The pool is overlooking the Persian Gulf, the elite hotel offers Arabic and Mediterranean dining in the Cucina Luna restaurant and pastries and chocolates in the Choco Cafe.
The Six Senses Spa in the hotel will be opening at then end of the year.

Mirror mirror on the wall whose the fairest of us all

I'm a huge fan of wallcoverings, especially graphic prints in bold colours. Wallcovering is one of the best ways to make a boring, ordinary or awkward space come to life! Have a look at some of these great rooms and wallcoverings and tell us what you think of these.

Tip: Anything with a vertical stripe makes a room look taller so think about this next time you are designing a room with a low ceiling

Traditionally, wallcovering is used on one or more walls in a space, but to save a little time and money, wallcovering can be used in small doses and still create a big impact, like in this bathroom.

When used the right way, wallcoverings like this bright orange one can make an incredible impact in a space.
